NG32 Concession

Okavango Delta | Botswana

NG 32 is a wildlife management area that used to be a hunting concession, located in the Okavango Delta. Accommodation is available in one of two luxury tented camps in NG 32 and they can only be accessed by fly-in and transfer by boat.

Community-based conservation benefits local people. Changes in legislation allow previously disadvantaged villagers to enjoy the gains from their immediate natural resources. Local and regional bodies now profit from wildlife and other tourist based activities in their very own communal areas. The success of these projects generates income and employment, whilst still focusing on proper financial management, combined with appropriate and relevant programs to satisfy community member's needs.

GENERAL:

Project activities: Community tourism, mokoro (dug-out canoe) tours, leading tourists on vehicle and walking trails in the reserve, basketry and other craft sales.

Size: 1,050km².

Wildlife: Sightings can include zebra, giraffe, impala, bushbaby, genets, spring hares and at times - elephant. The large trees and grassy islands are a great habitat for predators, especially lion and leopard.

Birding: There are plenty of waterbirds and raptors. Fish eagles, marsh harriers, crested barbet, pied and woodland kingfishers, bateleur eagles and tawny eagles can also be observed.
