Gunn's Camp
Okavango Delta | Botswana
Gunn's Camp is located on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. It is set under leafy palms and African ebony trees and overlooks Chief's Island. Access is by a short 20 min light aircraft fly-in and transfer from Maun International Airport to a private airstrip.
The Okavango Delta is Botswana's main draw card. It receives water from 2 different sources at 2 different times of the year. The first is the Delta's wetland systems and the second is fed by Angolan rains which start in October and finish in April. This creates higher water levels in the panhandle, permanent swamp and seasonal swamps of the Delta. As the water travels through, animal life returns to the region. It becomes drier from April to October, the best time for game viewing, as animals congregate around permanent water sources.
The newly refurbished main lodge has an inviting and relaxing lounge area, and drinks can be enjoyed in the comfortable bar as guests admire the sun setting over the Delta. Delicious meals are served in the restaurant, which itself boasts some spectacular views over the immediate floodplains and palm-fringed islands. There is also a swimming pool and the camp fire is lit nightly; the perfect end to the day exchanging travel stories and adventures with fellow guests.
Accommodation is at either the Main Camp or Gunn's Bush Camp and is unique in that it offers a 3-tiered system. The Bush Camp is on an island and is connected to the Main Camp by a small causeway crossing the wetlands, lit by lanterns at night.
