Chitabe Trail

Okavango Delta | Botswana

The Chitabe Trail is a 2 day / 1 night walking safari in the Okavango Delta's best walking areas and it offers a genuine experience for those who want to get closer to nature. Hikers will be accompanied by an armed guide, who will lead them on an informative and adventurous journey, through the different habitats of the Delta. Visitors must spend a minimum of 3 nights at either Chitabe Main or Chitabe Lediba Camps, of which the middle night must be set aside for the walking trail.

A typical day would consist of walking for several hours at a moderate pace. This allows for plenty of time for quality game viewing and birding. The night out is spent at 1 of 2 separate hides located in different parts of the Chitabe Reserve.

Participants of the Chitabe Trail will be pleased to know that at both hides, accommodation is on elevated platforms, with only a mosquito net separating them from the starry night skies above.

One hide is situated on the edge of a floodplain that usually contains water. The second is built within a woodland area bordering an extensive open savannah plain. There is an abundance of elephant activity at the second, not to mention the roaring of lions and calls of hyena.

Simple, but delicious, home-cooked meals are prepared on an open campfire. Chemical toilets and hot bucket showers are provided at each camp location.
